A Tour of the Gotham City Designer Outlet!

3 06 2009

Here are some pictures of our new store, all set up and pretty. We made sure to take these while the store was still empty so that you’d be able to actually see the layout!

We’ve hung iconic posters of New York City all around the store and designer handbags line the wall that shares the entrance doors. In the front of the store, we’ve placed our hot new arrivals from brands like Carlos Santata, Steve Madden, Adidas and Nine West, which are in perfect condition and have a wide range of sizes available. We also have some great Coach shoes in a nice display in the middle of the store. The back of the store has racks and racks of women’s clearance shoes as well as shoes for men, youths and infants. And we’ve got fashionable clothing of all kinds (from bathing suits to business suits) for men and women in the center.

Now you have a great reason to come visit Kentucky! And if you already live in the bluegrass state, what are you waiting for? We’d love to meet you and we’re sure you’ll love shopping with us. :)

Pictures from the Pre-Opening Party!!

30 04 2009

Our Pre-opening party was a huge success. We got lots of positive feedback about our new store and even more positive feedback about our designer shoes. In fact, our guests were so thrilled with all the amazing deals and New York City fashion that we needed to re-stock our store! But don’t worry, we still have plenty of shoes coming in every day for our store and online for you to fall in love with.

Even though we haven’t officially opened, you are still welcome to come by the store and shop! We’d love to meet you.

Gotham City Designer Outlet in The Mayfield Messenger

29 04 2009

We could not find an online version of this local newspaper to link to, so we’ve copied this story for you. This nice article was published on the front page of the Thursday, April 16, 2009 edition of The Mayfield Messenger.

GOTHAM CITY DESIGNER OUTLET LOCATING IN OLD WAL-MART BLDG.

Caption with picture above says: “(Pictured above) Photo Editor Nikki Holshousler checks over the rows of shoes lining the Gotham City Designer Outlet warehouse at the former Wal-Mart building in Mayfield Plaza, while (pictured left) rows of designer shoes line the front aisle near the main entrance of the first store Gotham City [Online] has ever opening [sic], as part of a partnership with D & D in Mayfield.”

by Matt Schorr

Gotham City Designer Outlet, an online clothing retail franchise specializing in “New York City fashion, ” intends to locate a warehouse and store at the former Wal-Mart facility in Mayfield Plaza. The company has already announced a pre-opening event from 6-9 p.m.

Gotham City [Online] is based out of New York City, where its corporate offices are located. The online retailer specializes primarily in shoes but also features an array of designer clothing and other apparel. The company’s original warehouse was located in New York, then relocated to Secaucus, N.J., the finally moved to Mayfield, Operations Manager Jeff Robertson said.

The Mayfield location will be the first time the company has opened a traditional store. Before now, all transactions were handled online.

Gotham City [Online] partnered with local shoe company D & D, owned by David and Lamar Hardin, to open the establishment at the former Wal-Mart building. D & D is managing the store, while Gotham City Online maintains the back warehouse filled with several hundreds to thousands of shoes shipped throughout the world.

“I was amazing, ” Robertson said when he was first made aware of the company’s distribution range. He knew of several packages shipped to Australia and Israel. ”Shoes from little old Mayfield are going all over the world,” he said.

Robertson and other employees and the store/warehouse said they unofficially opened their doors to the public Wednesday. Since then, they’ve operated on a limited schedule. Robertson said they will officially open Monday, April 20, with regular store hours. They also plan to schedule a grand opening at a later date.

Rows upon rows of various designer shoes line the front aisles of the store, complimented by swimsuits, purses, and other clothing. Store managers and employees spent the morning making certain everything was in line.

Meanwhile, in the back of the warehouse, other employees checked in the near-endless supply of shoes to be purchased online at the company’s website: www.gothamcityonline.com.

Gotham City [Online]’s corporate offices are located on West 33rd St. in Manhattan’s Fashion District.

We’ve Survived the Ice Storm and We’re Up and Running!

9 02 2009

The ice is thawing and power is slowly being restored throughout the half of the US that was effected by the terrible storm system that passed through late January. We feel very lucky having been effected for only about a week (and to have an uninjured staff! yay!) but we know that even a week can feel like forever when you’re waiting for a few fantastic pairs of shoes to arrive (especially ones you discovered at 70% off!)

So, we hope that you have already joined the Gotham City Online mailing list and were among the fashionistas to get the exclusive new coupon code we e-mailed out. In honor of being fully up and running again in our Kentucky warehouse, we decided to share a great deal on shoes to keep our customers running too!  Happy Shopping Everyone!

Ok, if you’re new to our store and missed that coupon, email us and if you mention this blog, we’ll give you the coupon code too – but just this once! :-)

We also wanted to share some of the beautiful and haunting images our employees and their families captured on their cameras and cell phones during and after the storm. Those pictures are above and below.

Severe Ice Storm from Texas to Maine

30 01 2009

As you may have already heard in the news, severe ice and winter storms have effected much of the mid and eastern parts of the US, including Kentucky where our warehouse is located.

USA TODAY picture by Clay Jackson, AP

Danville, Kentucky

Per an article on USAToday.com yesterday, thousands are without power and ”The numbers soared into the hundreds of thousands from northern Arkansas through Kentucky, where as much as 1 to 2 inches of ice burdened trees and power lines… In Kentucky, the snapping of utility lines cut off phone service and even e-mail, said Kentucky State Police Sgt. David Jude, commander of media relations. Even cellphone service was being disrupted, Jude said. More than a half-million customers in Kentucky remained in the dark. Many of the people had no heat and no working phone service to call for help.”

Luckily, our entire staff is accounted for and doing as well as expected; staying with family to share fireplaces, flashlights and food until local grocery stores and roads open back up again and their power is restored. Our thoughts are with everyone living in the effected areas at this time and we appreciate the support our customers have been showing us.

We are all working extra hard to keep up with demand, but mother nature has obviously slowed things down for us this week. Everyone at Gotham greatly appreciates your business and your patience during this temporary delay in packages being picked up from our warehouse to be shipped by FedEx and the US Postal Service. If you have specific questions about your order, please contact us. We are here to help.

Gotham’s First Brick & Mortar Store Opening Soon!

15 01 2009

Gotham City Online already has an amazing selection of items for sale online, but very soon you will be able to browse in person! As you probably know, we were strictly an online retailer for the past 10 years. However, as part our Decennial anniversary celebration, we’ve decided to make the jump into a brick and mortar environment.

Our new store is in a building that used to be home to a Wal-Mart and it is part of a huge shopping mall (which also means tons of parking). Shoes will obviously be a big part of the new inventory, but we also plan to add fashionable clothing and other great items from our partners that are not available on our website!  We expect to open our doors in February, so keep your calenders open. If you will be in the Mayfield, Kentucky area or want to come down, we’d love to see you!

Below are some pictures of the work going on right now; we just got most of the walls up, and we’ll definitely list more pictures as progress continues. The brown doors on the left open up to the parking lot.

We’ve Expanded – See our New Warehouse!

22 12 2008

warehouse racks

Ever wonder how all the beautiful designer shoes in your closet got there so fast?
Wish you had a closet that looked like the picture above? (me too!).

Welcome to Gotham City Online’s new warehouse location in Mayfield, Kentucky! From here we ship thousands of shoes every day to customers in every state of the US (including the disconnected ones), to Canada, Mexico, and the entire world!

Obviously that kind of business takes up a lot of room, so we recently had to pack up and find a larger space. Once the prime location was picked out though, we still had a lot of work to do to ensure our Gotham people would be comfy and our processes would continue to be efficient. Take a look below at what we started with.

Warehouse Before

Yuck! Let’s just say it needed a little more than just a new coat of paint. But add a little Gotham magic and imagination, and you get this much better version:

Warehouse After

And so that’s the beginning. Don’t worry, we’re going to show you even more pictures (and hopefully a video too!) of each department in our warehouse once they’re all set up. Stay tuned!

Give More, Get More! Gotham City Online’s Charity Idea

12 11 2008

I am super excited to announce that 2009 marks Gotham City Online’s 10 year anniversary! As you may know, Gotham City Online is more than just the best place to shop for unbeatable prices on designer shoes online. We have a passion for helping others which has grown along with our company’s success (I encourage those new to our site to read more about our charity work). Thanks to customers like you, Gotham has helped raise over $1,300,000 for charity since 1999! But we’re definitely not stopping there.

We have all been affected by the recent slide in the economy. Schools and other charity organizations are hurting more than ever and unfortunately even fewer people will be able to lend assistance due to their own financial situation. Even animal shelters are reporting unusually high rates of animal abandonment due to some families having to decide between feeding themselves or their pets!

Gotham is grateful to be in a position to help out our friends, so in celebration of our 10 year anniversary and the coming holiday season, we plan to do just that. You don’t have to do anything different, just keep shopping! Soon we will be donating 10% of your purchase (no extra charge) to a worthy charity. But here’s the best part… you get to pick which charity you want to support each time you place an order!

We already have some great causes in mind but we want your help too. If you know any registered charities or worthwhile community organizations that could use our help, please let me know! If you post a comment below with your idea/organization, I will be happy to contact you back via email to provide you with additional information (just be sure to provide a valid email address!).

Cheers! -Chloe (aka GothamGirl)
