Fun Facts About Kentucky & New York – The official state drink? and more!

9 06 2009

We’re lucky we chose Mayfield, Kentucky to open our first store. The people there are all so nice and we’re learning more about the residents and the state all the time: from dealing with the occasional ice storm and tornado warning, to having beautiful, open green landscapes, savoring the calm and unhurried atmosphere so unlike New York City, and seeing friends everywhere you go.

So, we wanted to have a bit of fun and share some interesting facts about Kentucky with our blog readers! Some of these topics we didn’t even know about our own state of New York so, of course, that led to us looking up information on our state too. We’re sure there’ll be surprises in store for natives of both states. For example, did you know the official state drink of both New York and Kentucky is milk?! (did you even know there was an official state drink?).  There’s even more below…

  • The State Nickname of Kentucky is The Bluegrass State. New York gets two: the state is both The Empire State and The Big Apple.
  • The State Outdoor Musical of Kentucky is ”The Stephen Foster Story.” New York doesn’t have a State Outdoor Musical but the do host lots all over the city!

Jeff

I think Kentucky’s official drink should be sweet tea (or a mint julip made with our own bourbon!)… New York’s could be the manhattan cocktail, of course (which has bourbon too!).
